도호쿠의 일본해(동해) 측면에 있으며, 사쿠란보(앵두) 등의 재배가 활발한 과일 왕국으로 알려져 있다. 일본 3대 급류의 하나인 모가미강과 경계에 자리 잡은 자오산맥 등 아름답고 웅대한 자연이 매력적이다.Located on the Japan Sea side of Tohoku, Yamagata Prefecture is know for its production of fruits such as cherries. 1. 야마가타 하나가사 축제 Yamagata Hanagasa Festival
매년 8월 5일, 6일, 7일에 열리는 축제로 100만 명 이상의 인파로 붐빈다. 하나가사(꽃으로 꾸민 삿갓)과 산뜻한 의상을 입은 약 1만 명의 사람들이 춤을 추며 행진하는 모습은 마치 크게 출렁이는 꽃 물결과 같다.
This summer festival held every August 5-7 is celebrated by over 1 million people. The sight of 10,000 people dancing along in flower-adorned hats and brightly colored costumes is like an undulating wave of flowers.

2. 신조 축제 Shinjo Festival

Registered as an element of Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO in 2016, this traditional festival is held every August 24-26. The festival bathes the town in color with its impressive processions of floats and traditional portable shrines.

3. 돗코누마 Dokko-numa Pond
해발 1264m에 있는 에메랄드그린 색으로 빛나는 습지. 자오 중앙고원의 인기 관광지로 여름에는 더위를 식히려고 찾는 사람도 많다. 너도밤나무숲 사이를 시원한 바람이 지나가는 그야말로 별천지다.
This sparkling emerald green lake is 1,264m above sea level. It is a popular spot on the Zao Chuo Plateau where many people come to cool off in the summer. With a pleasant breeze blowing through a Japanese beech forest, this place is like another world.

4. 다마스다레 폭포 Tamasudare Falls
63m의 높이에서 수직 낙하하는 폭포는 박력 만점! 옛날에는 산악 종교의 수행장으로 알려진 곳으로, 지금도 미타케 신사가 모셔져 있다. 거대한 삼나무로 둘러싸인 일대는 신비로운 분위기.
Plunging straight down from a height of 63 meters, this waterfall is very impressive! It was once known as a sacred mountain training site for religious devotees, and Buddhist worshippers still come here to pay their respects. The waterfall surrounded by big Japanese cedars is a mystical sight.

5. 가타카이누마 Katakai-numa Lake
자오 중앙고원에 있는 가타카이누마는 주변의 나무들과 동화된 듯한 짙은 녹음을 발하고 있다. 만병초와 손바닥나비난초 등의 고산 식물이 만발하는 여름은 그림처럼 아름답다.
Located on the Zao Chuo Plateau, the deep green of Katakainuma Lake seems to be synchronized with the trees around it. In summer the surrounding area blooms with mountain plants like rhododendrons and keyflowers, and is as beautiful as a painting.

6. 마루이케사마 Maruike-sama Pond
조카이산 기슭에 있는 지름 약 20m, 수심 5m의 용수지(湧水池). 예로부터 신앙의 대상인 "마루이케사마"라고 불리며 소중히 여겨져 왔다. 용수(샘물)로만 가득한 연못은 푸른 빛을 띠며 투명하게 빛난다.
This spring-fed pond at the foot of Mt. Chokai is around 20m in diameter and 5m deep. The pond has long been an object of religious devotion and is respectfully referred to with the honorific suffix “sama.” Filled only with spring water, the sparkling pond is a transparent blue color.
